During the semester, we have discussed a few assistive technology devices, software and services. We have also participated in research of the availability of assistive technology resources.
Based on your experiences and readings from the text, research and handouts, you will work to complete the assigned case studies.
1. Read the case study and provide a brief summary (between ½ and 1 page long), in writing, of the key characteristics of the person in question.
2. Explain what the person’s needs are, in the context of academic and social accommodations. In other words, with what does the person have difficulty in doing, and what are some general suggestions for how to help the person.
3. Describe, in detail, one type of assistive technology that will support such accommodations, and WHY the AT is appropriate.
4. List another alternative to your chosen assistive technology, including a brief description and why it is appropriate.
5. Along with the descriptions of the possible assistive technology tools, please provide website information on these tools.
6. In addition to the two tools described above, provide a written description of a “low tech” strategy that would also assist your student.
7. Complete the SETT forms located on the class WIKI page to organize your information.
8. Submit hard copy of all the items listed above to me during class on March 31, 2011. NO EXCEPTIONS!
9. Be prepared to share a short explanation of your case study during class on March 31, 2011.
